Education+Work – PFP Assignments

1. Your Full Resume (Minus Career Objective)
If you have a resume, cut and paste it below. If you don’t, start one now by listing the basics of your educational background, work background so far, and at least one personal reference. Every time you apply for a job, you want to take this detailed resume and make a custom (and shorter) one, tailored specifically for the job you are applying to. You start your resume with an Objective, which you customize for each job. Some of that language can come from your Career Goals page, assuming you get a career in the industry you are aiming for. (Cut and paste your existing resume below or if you have to, create a VERY brief resume for this assignment. You can make it more detailed later, but this wiki page is a good place to keep your “master” resume.)

QUALIFICATIONS
I have been working since I was fifteen years old, when I was hired at my first job. Currently I am twenty-one years old, and I held that job up until earlier this year. I have had several part time jobs as well during that stretch of time, ranging from fast-food preparation to childcare. I am no stranger to hard work. I am willing to learn, and do so very quickly. I consider myself accommodating and capable of working well with others to accomplish tasks, which, I believe, can make me a valuable asset to your team.

EDUCATION
2000-2004 Regents Diploma, Tonawanda High School
2004-2006 Five semesters attended at Buffalo State College
2007-2010 Attending the University of Advancing Technology

EMPLOYMENT
2007 TruGreen Chemlawn – Commercial Lawn Route Manager
From March of 2007 to this past August, I was employed by TruGreen Chemlawn. They are a national chain of Lawn and Shrub Service Professionals, providing fertilization and pesticide services to both residential and commercial customers. My duties included maintaining and piloting a company vehicle, transporting chemicals, applying fertilizer and pesticides to lawns, and customer service. I was first hired as a Lawn Route Manager in the residential sector of the company, but I was quickly moved up into the Commercial sector, which is, to be honest, far more essential to the company’s financial success.

2002-2007 Touch of Italy Restaurant - Dishwasher / Cook / Delivery
I was employed at this restaurant for 5 years. My responsibilities originally included dishwashing and clean-up at closing, and eventually expanded to food preparation and food delivery as well. For the past few years I had been something of a ’Jack-of-all-Trades’ in the restaurant setting, being the ’go-to’ guy when someone needed a shift covered, something needed replacing or repairing, or when there was simply a bit of slack to be picked up.

2004 YMCA of Buffalo - Junior Counselor,
The summer I turned 18, I worked as a Counselor for the YMCA’s summer day camp program. I had attended this program myself in previous years, and during the two summers prior to being employed I attended as a “Counselor-in-Training”, or, “CIT”. The CIT program helped me become familiar with how the staff of a childcare program functions, and prepared me for caring for children of various age-groups and backgrounds before I actually applied for a job. I was employed as a Junior Counselor for one summer, working under a Senior Counselor with children from ages 3-5. The experience was highly enjoyable and taught me a great deal about responsibility, considering the welfare of nearly 20 young children was in my hands. I tried always to keep my attitude positive and my demeanor that of someone who is easily approachable and willing to work with others to solve a problem or make a situation better.

My sincere thanks for your time and consideration,
Steven James Olender

2. Advice: Post Your Resume Online
LinkedIn is a great place for you to list your past work experiences, and to get others to write “recommendations” for your past work with them, which stay online with your LinkedIn profile. Twelve million business people and students list their profiles/resumes on LinkedIn, and recruiters from big companies constantly look there to find skilled workers. Conventional job sites, like Monster.com and Jobbing.com are other places you can make a profile and list your online resume. There are also career specific places where you can list your resume, like GameJobs.com. If you don’t have a particular company or companies you are set on working at, you should list your resume at a good number of these online sites, to get the kind of offer you are looking for.

3. Current Class Schedule and Education plans.
This page is also a good place to plan your education schedule and list any future education plans you are considering.
